After having played a starring role in Malaysia’s come-from-behind win over Laos, Norshahrul Idlan Talaha has declared he’s ready to hunt down Adisak Kraisorn and claim the Golden Boot at the 2018 AFF Suzuki Cup.

The caveat to that is he’s not chasing individual glory for the sake of it but rather to ensure that his team keeps scoring the goals that will put them on course to reach the knockout stage.

With the visitors having taken a seventh minute lead at the Bukit Jalil Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia earned their win the hard way with Norshahrul’s two goals coming in the final six minutes of the match.

Having also scored in Malaysia’s 1-0 win over Cambodia on the opening day, the 32-year-old forward has now set his sights on hauling in Thai hotshot Adisak who grabbed a remarkable six goals in Thailand’s 7-0 demolition of Timor-Leste.

“Of course! Of course but I have to hope that Adisak doesn’t score any more goals after this though!

“Really though I’m not thinking about individual targets, it’s only about the team and if the team wins then I’m happy.”

Heading into the break at 1-1 wasn’t what was expected of the favourites on their home ground but Norshahrul credits a direct team talk from coach Tan Cheng Hoe in being able to provide the spark that helped spur the strong Malaysian finish.

“In the first half I felt that we didn’t want to take risks and didn’t attack but thankfully we could score the two late goals.

“At halftime the coach told us directly to go and attack and to not be scared to make mistakes, simply just try to score and thankfully we could do that.”

Malaysia now sit alone atop of Group A with six points from their opening two matches but face another stern challenge travelling away to face Vietnam in Hanoi on Friday.
