Hanoi: Having continued their perfect start to the AFF Suzuki Cup with a 2-0 win over Malaysia in front of a raucous, 41,000-capacity, crowd Vietnam star Lương Xuân Trường has credited that boisterous backing as a major factor behind their win.

The central midfielder has been a classy presence on the pitch and just as much off it in making a point to recognise the brilliant atmosphere created inside the My Dinh Stadium by a collection of fans that had arrived some four hour before kickoff.

“Tonight was a really tough match so we’re really glad we got the win.

“With such a huge crowd in our home we’re so happy because we could bring a big present to our supporters.”

The three points were also a major boost for the nation’s hopes of progression through to the semifinals as the win sees Vietnam draw level with Malaysia and Myanmar on six points at the head of Group A.

Whilst Xuân Trường was pleased with the win he noted that Malaysia had made things tough for his team and once again credited the massive home backing as a factor in Vietnam being able to score early in either half to force the visitors to try and come from behind.

“Today we can say that Malaysia controlled the match very well so it was fortunate that our team was able to score when we did and then return to our usual way of playing.

“The second goal certainly made things easier and both myself and the team, I feel, gave everything we had.

“We decided to do all we could with that support of our fans and this three points at the My Dinh Stadium is the ultimate reward for them.”
