As we pass the midway point of the group stage, the AFF Suzuki Cup continues to provide a string of highlight worthy moments with a galaxy of stars shining on a matchday that saw plenty of entertaining attacking football.

It’s no surprise then that two of the highest scoring nations in Thailand and the Philippines provide a bulk of the players up for the Matchday Three Player of the Round award although there is also a strong case to be made for the Indonesian defender and the Vietnam forward that complete our list of nominees.

Teerasil Dangda (Thailand)

The Thai captain wrote his name in the record books as he scored twice in a 4-0 win over Myanmar to go joint top of the all-time scoring charts at the AFF Suzuki Cup.

It was the second of his two goals, from the penalty spot, that saw him hit that mark but it was the first that displayed all of his best qualities with a delightful first touch to trap dead a cross from the right and then the vision and technique to turn and fire home. 

Stephan Schrock (Philippines)

Some might argue that having only played the first half in his nation’s thumping 7-0 win over Timor-Leste that Schrock may not deserve to be on this list but look at what he did in that time.

He was a constant threat with his touch, movement and control and of the half a dozen goals that rained down in that first period he provided the assist for three of them in a devastating display. 

Kevin Ingreso (Philippines)

The central midfielder didn’t need to get through a great deal of defensive work in the Azkals rout of Timor-Leste but he was a fine link between defence and attack.

A genuine tempo setter who allows others further forward to shine he also chipped in with a goal and an assist in a classy all-round outing. 

Asnawi Mangkualam (Indonesia)

A typically busy performance from the right back saw him stay solid in his defensive duties whilst also looking to constantly push up the flank or move centrally to get involved in the attacking side of things.

A thunderous penalty as well as an assist capped off a strong outing for the young defender in Indonesia’s 5-1 win over Laos.

Nguyen Quang Hai (Vietnam)

One of Southeast Asia’s most dazzling attacking talents didn’t disappoint as he pulled the strings in Vietnam’s impressive win over Malaysia.

A thumping finish to open the scoring and then a delightful flicked assist for the Golden Star Warriors’ second were the highlights but his link up play, passing and dribbling were again at the highest of levels with Vietnam having the luxury to withdraw their prized asset with an hour gone.
