It was a very tightly fought affair between Singapore and Indonesia in the first leg of their semi-final showdown at the National Stadium as things ended all square with a 1-1 draw.

A clash where there were several defensive standouts nullified the attacking threats of both teams but we’ve still managed to find a place across all three lines in the nominations for the Player of the Match as two defenders, a midfielder and a forward make the list.

Alfeandra Dewangga (Indonesia)

Although his loose pass led to the movement that saw Singapore draw level, the 20-year-old turned in yet another eye-catching performance at the back for the Garuda.

His positional play and reading of the game is at a very high level for such a young defender and with nine clearances and five interceptions he led both nations in those categories whilst also being generally tidy in his distribution.

Ikhsan Fandi (Singapore)

The powerful forward saw only limited opportunities against an impressive Indonesian defence but when things really mattered he delivered.

Before he was withdrawn with an apparent knock, the 22-year-old had just the four shots, with only one on target, but that was the one that counted as he surged into the box and side footed past Nadeo Argawinata to pull Singapore level.   

Asnawi Mangkualam (Indonesia)

It’s not often that you see a rightback captaining a team but once again the dynamic fullback was a standout performer for the Garuda.

Full of energy to get up and down his wing he was tidy in his defensive work, with two interceptions and nine recoveries, and a constant threat in the attacking third as he provided the assist for the Indonesian opener that was one of the goals of the tournament.

Witan Sulaeman (Indonesia)

In a re-jigged 5-4-1 formation, Witan remained the creative fulcrum of this impressive, youthful, Garuda outfit.

Nominally stationed as a right-sided midfield option he often drifted centrally and was a constant danger with his willingness to run at defenders and his poise and control on the ball.

In addition to playing three key passes he also scored one of the goals of the tournament to put Indonesia ahead in the first half.

Shahdan Sulaiman (Singapore)

Stationed at the base of a Singapore midfield that fulfilled different functions in either half, the 33-year-old was a sound presence, leading his nation in passes and crosses while posting more key passes than any other player on the pitch. 

Shahdan proved Singapore's main creative outlet, with more passes in the final third of the pitch, while it was his free-kick midway through the first half that led to Singapore's first chance of the game when Safuwan Baharudin saw his header tipped over the bar.
