There’s no question that the group stage at the 2020 AFF Suzuki Cup was dominated by the attacking side of the game with a remarkable 70 goals scored across the 20 matches.

That means that much of the discussion around the stars of the tournament so far has naturally been focussed on the players creating and scoring those goals.

The six nominees below have managed to net a combined 19 of those 70 goals and now it’s your turn to vote and help determine just who will be crowned the Best Forward of the Group Stage.

Teerasil Dangda (Thailand)

One of the standout performers of the group stage where he’s now become the all-time leading scorer in the history of the AFF Suzuki Cup, having scored four goals in just three matches and created plenty more with his hold-up and link-up play. 

Ikhsan Fandi (Singapore)

After having scored twice in Singapore’s opening encounter the young forward has failed to find the back of the net since then but he remained a constant threat in front of goal, particularly from aerial situations. 

Irfan Jaya (Indonesia)

Tactically flexible, the 25-year-old has lined up on both the right and the left as well as in central and more advanced roles where he’s a dynamic threat with his pace and trickery on the ball. More than just the creativity, it’s also been the production that has stood out with the playmaker already having three goals and two assists at the tournament. 

Nguyen Quang Hai (Vietnam)

Once again, one of the stars of Southeast Asian football has delivered when it matters most as he was a key contributor as Vietnam secured safe passage through to the semi-finals. A constant danger with the ball at his feet with his vision and trickery, the raw numbers also stand out with the 24-year-old having two goals, two assists and an eye-catching 12 key passes. 

Safawi Rasid (Malaysia)

The 24-year-old started the tournament on fire, grabbing his nation’s first goal in a win over Cambodia and then bagging a hat-trick three days later against Cambodia. His fortunes, though, went the way of Malaysia’s more generally in the final two matches where he failed to score and picked up an injury, although he remains joint top of the scoring charts heading into the knockout stage. 

Bienvenido Maranon (Philippines)

The Philippines may have crashed out at the group stage but that was in no way down to the showings of the newly naturalised Maranon, who found the back of the net against Timor-Leste on Matchday Three before turning in one of the best individual displays at the tournament so far as he grabbed a hat-trick against Myanmar in the final round of matches.
