Kuala Lumpur, 21 March 2022 – The ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) announced today that FPT Play has been appointed as the exclusive media rights holder for the next edition of the AFF Championship in Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar. Through a deal brokered by SPORTFIVE, AFF’s exclusive commercial and media rights representative, FPT Play will broadcast the upcoming AFF Championship 2022 matches on their terrestrial, cable, satellite, IPTV, Internet, mobile and social networks.

Scheduled to take place in December this year, the AFF Championship 2022 is a high priority tournament for the Vietnamese national team, who have lifted the trophy on two occasions, most recently in 2018. Following a strong showing in the tournament’s recent 2020 edition held in Singapore, as well as promising performances in the World Cup Qualifiers for the Asian region, the “Golden Star warriors” will be looking to reclaim their AFF Championship title in 2022.

Ms. To Nam Phuong, Deputy General Director of FPT Play, said, "2022 has begun brightly for the country’s football teams with consecutive victories in the various international arenas, including at both the National and youth U23 levels. Overcoming all challenges, the Golden Star warriors have shown the international sports community and particularly their Vietnamese football fans their fighting spirit and quiet strength when faced with adversity. FPT Play wishes to play its part in supporting the Vietnam teams’ efforts by bringing their winning moments to the masses, and the AFF Championship 2022 will be the next prestigious platform for FPT Play to bring the best Vietnamese football content to all the Vietnamese people.”

AFF President, Major General Khiev Sameth, said, “We are very pleased to have FPT Play on board as the media rights partner for Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar for the upcoming AFF Championship 2022. FPT Play was a valued broadcast partner for the AFF U23 Championship 2022 held earlier this year, and to now have FPT Play extend the partnership to include our crown jewel competition, the AFF Championship speaks volume of their commitment to support and grow ASEAN football in the region together with us.”

Malcolm Thorpe, Managing Director, South East Asia at SPORTFIVE, said, “We are delighted to partner with FPT Play to bring the best ASEAN football action to all our fans in Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar. The AFF Championship is the region’s premier football tournament and with FPT Play’s extensive reach and multiple viewing platforms, fans will be spoilt for choice when choosing how they will catch all of the live action when the tournament gets under way.”
