Malaysian starlet Safawi Rasid has declared that the team’s attacking threat is far from just a one-man show and that the whole side needs to lift as they prepare to face Laos in their second match at the AFF Suzuki Cup.

Having starred for his country at various youth levels before bursting onto the senior stage with a string of eye-catching performances over the past year much is expected of the 21-year-old.

In his maiden AFF Suzuki Cup campaign, the young winger admits that he’s feeling the pressure but also promised that the team will do all they can to back up an opening win in Cambodia earlier in the week with another against Laos.

“For me there’s pressure because it’s my first AFF Suzuki Cup but it’s not just about me.

“I need help from my teammates so I hope that myself and the whole team are able to show our best in the match against Laos tomorrow.”

With the other opening day winner, Vietnam, having the bye in the second round of matches, Safawi knows that victory over the Group A underdogs will ensure his nation goes to the top of the standings.

“We know that it’s important for our success in the tournament to win this match and so far our preparation as a team has been good.

“The fact that we are at home is also an advantage for us and so we are looking forward to winning this match.”

With a difficult away trip to Phnom Penh out of the way, the impressive Safawi is delighted to be able to play in front of the vocal home support in Malaysia and has promised to put on a show for the fans.

“We don’t want to use it as excuse but the ground for the first match was not so good but we know that everybody in the team needs to play better than we did in Cambodia.

“The fact it’s our first home match at the AFF Suzuki Cup means that we want to make sure that the supporters leave happy and that’s our goal to ensure that happens.”
