After 24 matches and more than three weeks of thrilling football, we’ve arrived at the final of the 2020 AFF Suzuki Cup as Indonesia and Thailand get set for battle.

It’s a clash between a youthful Garuda side that have finished runners-up on five occasions and an experienced War Elephants outfit that are looking to add to their five titles.

Will the highest stage in Southeast Asian football see new stars shine or veteran heads prevail?

Egy Maulana (Indonesia)

Indonesia’s star forward was a late arrival at the tournament but he showed just how deadly he can be in a dazzling cameo in the second leg of the semi-final win over Singapore.

Coming off the bench in the 66^th minute he scored the goal that ultimately ended the Lions' hopes just over half an hour later and he’s line for a start here which is great news for all Garuda supporters.

Chanathip Songkrasin (Thailand)

It’s been a strange tournament for the Thai talisman who was relatively quite in the group stage before turning in a virtuoso showing in the first leg of the semi-final against Vietnam and then being largely shackled again in the second leg.

The diminutive playmaker is at his best when the stakes are high though so he’s surely a player that could decide which nation will lift the trophy on New Year’s Day.  

Rachmat Irianto (Indonesia)

The versatile 22-year-old is capable of playing either in defence or, more likely, in a deeper midfield role where he would then be the man charged with one of the toughest assignments in Southeast Asian football: to stop Chanathip Songkrasin.

How he manages to handle the threat of the Thai playmaker could well determine the success that Indonesia have in the first leg. 

Narubadin Weerawatnodom (Thailand)

With Indonesia’s star left-back Pratama Arhan suspended for the first leg that could make things easier than they would have otherwise been for right-back Narubadin.

The full-back has been exceptional for Thailand throughout the tournament both in his defensive duties and especially in pushing forward and joining in the attack and he’ll be a player that Indonesia clearly need to contain.
