Singapore, 17 October 2022 – The build-up to the AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup 2022 continued at the weekend when the Trophy Tour and Football Clinic landed at its second port of call, Singapore.

Having first touched down in Bangkok in late September, the next destination was the Kallang Wave Mall in the Singapore Sports Hub as fans in the Lion City were offered the chance to see a trio of Singapore stars from years gone by.

Lions legends Noh Alam Shah, Lionel Lewis, Baihakki Khaizan and Khairul Amri were all in attendance, leading training drills with aspiring young players, taking part in a Q&A session, mingling with the crowd and signing autographs.

And there are few better names for the next generation of Singapore youngsters to learn from with Alam Shah, Lewis, Baihakki and Amri amassing an impressive 10 AFF Championship titles between them.

Alam Shah, whose tournament highlights include a hat-trick in the 2004 semi-final against Myanmar and an incredible seven-goal haul against Laos in 2007, helped his side win the tournament in both editions, while he is second in the competition's all-time scoring charts on 17 goals.

Lewis, meanwhile, also picked up a winner’s medal in both 2004 and 2007, while the goalkeeper was named the AFF Championship’s MVP in the 2004 edition when a string of excellent performances were key in the Lions winning their second title.

Baihakki, whose career for the national team spanned 18 years, was part of the championship-winning sides of 2004, 2007 and 2012. Best known for his performances at the back, the defender scored the third goal in a 3-1 win over Thailand in the 2012 final that saw Singapore clinch a then record fourth title.

Amri, who had a knack of scoring crucial goals, netted in the first leg of the 2004 final against Indonesia as he claimed his first title. He scored the tournament-winning goal against Thailand in 2007 and was once more on the mark against the War Elephants in the 2012 finale as he picked up a title number three.

With the aim of the tour to build excitement ahead of the AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup 2022, fans in Singapore can look forward to a pair of key games in Group B this December, with Myanmar visiting the National Stadium on December 24 and then Vietnam next to play in Kallang on December 30.

The Lions, who also travel to Laos on December 27 and Malaysia on January 3, will be targeting a return to the knockout rounds after advancing to the semi-finals at the last edition for the first time since 2012.

Next up, the Trophy Tour will stop in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday, October 22 as supporters of the Harimau Malaya have their chance to take part in the fun ahead of the eagerly awaited tournament.
