After two weeks of thrilling football the group stage at the 2020 AFF Suzuki Cup finally came to an end as four teams kept their hopes of lifting the trophy alive whilst the other half a dozen nations lick their wounds and start plotting how they might turn things around at the next edition.

Once again there was a collection of key performers across the final round of action with an Azkal hattrick hero, a Thai midfield maestro, a pair of flying Garuda and a powerful Golden Star Warrior all catching the eye.

Irfan Jaya (Indonesia)

In an exhilarating Indonesian display that saw them book their spot in the semifinals, one man was at the heart of much of the activity as Irfan showed all of his pace and trickery to constantly push the Malaysians onto the backfoot and just for good measure he also grabbed the first two goals for the Garuda.

Bienvenido Maranon (Philippines)

In a superb showing, Maranon became just the second player to score a hattrick at the 2020 AFF Suzuki Cup as he almost single-handedly dragged the Philippines to a 3-2 victory over Myanmar.

Showcasing finesse and control in a deadly penalty box performance, the forward’s first was a well-placed effort from adjacent to the penalty spot, the second a delightful chipped volley and the third a glancing header.

Worachit Kanitsribampen (Thailand)

Thailand rotated heavily for their final match but with little dip in quality in a 2-0 win over Singapore where central midfielder Worachit was a lively presence: tidy on the ball, crisp in his passing, willing to run at the opposition defence and capping it off with the assist for his nations’ second goal.

Pratama Arhan (Indonesia)

The 19-year-old leftback was an absolute star in Indonesia’s dominant win over fierce rivals Malaysia.

Setting aside his booming throw-ins that have made him something of a cult figure at the 2020 AFF Suzuki Cup, he also provided a first-half assist and then scored a stunning goal five minutes into the second half to greatly aid the Garuda semifinal push.

Nguyen Tien Linh (Vietnam)

Recalled to the starting line-up for the first time since Matchday One, Nguyen Tien Linh opened the scoring against Cambodia with a neat finish in the third minute before rifling home a stunning effort from distance as the half hour approached as he boosted his chances of being named in Park Hang-seo’s starting XI for the semi-final against Thailand.
